FREE Summer Cleaning Checklist

FREE Summer Cleaning Checklist - Clean Mama

Summer is here and so is my FREE summer cleaning checklist!

I like to break chores and tasks down into musts and maybes – and that’s how I approach seasonal cleaning. I might not get to everything on the list but at least I’ve gotten a couple musts out of the way first. Here’s a little explanation of my summer cleaning checklist – I hope you give it a whirl!  This is also great if you’re home for the summer (hello teachers) and looking to add a little extra cleaning to your days.

BASICS – SEASONAL CLEANING

These items are cleaning tasks that I rotate through 4 times a year or seasonally. Hence the summer cleaning checklist. Some of these items (dust, vacuum) are on my weekly cleaning checklist, so I do those on that day of the week, but I do a more thorough job. For instance, instead of just vacuuming the family room I move the furniture and vacuum under the couch. I dust all surfaces, but I also dust the corners and corners at the ceiling. If this is the only portion of the checklist that you complete, you have still done a great job. These basics will make a big difference in your home!

DEEP CLEANING

If you’ve never done a deep or thorough cleaning and you have extra time on your hands, you’ll want to check these items off your list. If you just washed your windows last month, you probably won’t need to wash them, check your home and see if any of these tasks should be completed.

TRADITIONAL SUMMER CLEANING TASKS TO ADD IF YOU’D LIKE

Seasonal cleaning goes back generations, these tasks are ones that are generally associated with summer cleaning. If you’d like to complete them and it makes sense for you it will be time well spent. If you don’t have time and have never completed them, no need to feel bad – they are just suggestions.

Clean Mama’s FREE Fall Cleaning Checklist

Free Fall Cleaning Checklist Printable via Clean MamaHappy Fall!  Let’s start off with a little fall cleaning, shall we?

Summer might still be hanging around but it’s time to tidy up the outside and inside of our homes before the snow starts flying.  I usually start off with a little outside cleaning and get the planters ready for fall by adding mums and asters and a fall wreath.  Doing this in September is perfect because there’s usually a warm day or two to get out and tackle the front porch.

I like to break chores and tasks down into musts and maybes – and that’s how I approach seasonal cleaning.  I might not get to everything on the list but at least I’ve gotten a couple musts out of the way first.  Here’s a little explanation of my fall cleaning checklist – I hope you give it a whirl!

BASICS

These items are cleaning tasks that I rotate through 4 times a year or seasonally.  Hence the fall cleaning checklist. These 9 basics will make a big difference in your home!

DEEP CLEANING

If you’ve never done a deep or thorough cleaning and you have extra time on your hands, you’ll want to check these items off your list.  If you just washed your windows last month, you probably won’t need to wash them, check your home and see if any of these tasks should be completed.

How to Fit Deep Cleaning Into a Busy Schedule: When?

How to Fit Deep Cleaning Into a Busy Schedule - Clean Mama

If you’re already busy it’s difficult to find a spare second and if you’re able to find a spare second is cleaning what you really want to do? Probably not.  So today let’s figure out the absolute best time to do a little deep cleaning.  I have 3 approaches for you…

Add a task or two to your weekly cleaning

Add one or two tasks every week to your cleaning routine – I like to complete most deep cleaning tasks on Fridays.  I use a rotating cleaning list that I work through every month.  This is most definitely my preferred method – everyday a little something.  I clean and tidy up all the time and I’m okay with it.

Do all of the your deep cleaning in one day (or morning, afternoon, or evening)

Choose one day a month to do your deep cleaning – if you like things to be cleaned all at one, like having a cleaning lady, you’ll want to choose one day a month to work on your list.  If I do my rotating cleaning list once a month it takes me somewhere between 2 and 4 hours depending on the tasks.  So a Saturday morning might be appropriate.  If you work outside of the home and are reading this I’m sure you’re laughing, but you can totally do it.  Because if you work at home you’re probably laughing too thinking.  Truth be told, if you know that you need to do a little more than you are already doing because what you’re doing isn’t working, change it.

Do your deep cleaning seasonally

Do a seasonal cleaning checklist each season.  It just so happens that I have a free fall cleaning checklist here.  If you haven’t ever done deep cleaning start in on that and then once your home is deep cleaned, decide if you want to continue with the seasonal cleaning or adopt a weekly or monthly approach.

Are you up for some deep cleaning or looking for ways to easily implement it?  What approach fits your lifestyle?   I’ll continue this little mini-series over the next week or two – stay tuned.

Something that’s helpful for me is my cleaning binder.  I keep cleaning schedules and rotating cleaning tasks in mine – go here to check it out.

FREE Fall Cleaning Checklist

Want to know the number one question I receive from readers?  I’m sure you’re on the edge of your seat….The most popular question that’s asked daily and frequently?  Interestingly enough it isn’t ‘is your house really clean’, or ‘what do you really look like’, it’s:

How do you rotate chores?

This is understandable, I give out a cleaning checklist for the month on the blog and talk about cleaning routines and cleaning all.the.time.  So…starting now (today), we’re/I’m going to be talking about seasonal and rotating chores a little more often on the blog.  What does that mean?  Probably more free checklists and a little chit chat about how I fit big and seemingly impossible cleaning tasks into a busy life (I really do and it’s not that big of a deal).

So I thought you might like a little fall cleaning checklist to start the season out right – and hey, it isn’t even fall yet, you’ll be way ahead of the game!

Free Fall Cleaning Checklist via Clean Mama

Grab the FREE Fall Cleaning Checklist here in my shop or if you’d prefer here in Googledocs.

So now that you can see the checklist, let me explain it a little bit.  I’ve broken it out into 3 main categories because not everyone will want or need to complete every item on this list and that’s okay.

Basics

These items are cleaning tasks that I rotate through 4 times a year or seasonally.  Hence the fall cleaning checklist. These 9 basics will make a big difference in your home!

Deep Cleaning Extras + Bonus Points

If you’ve never done a deep or thorough cleaning and you have extra time on your hands, you’ll want to check these items off your list.  If you just washed your windows last month, you probably won’t need to wash them (you can still put a check mark on your list), check your home and see if any of these tasks should be completed.

Traditional Fall Cleaning Tasks to Add If You’d Like

Fall and spring cleaning goes back generations, these tasks are ones that are generally associated with fall cleaning.  If you’d like to complete them and it makes sense for you it will be time well spent.  If you don’t have time and have never completed them, no need to feel bad – they are just suggestions.  For what it’s worth, I won’t be cleaning any gutters this fall (nor have I ever cleaned them).

So, are you going to do a little fall cleaning this year?  Excited to have a little more in-depth cleaning routine discussion here on Clean Mama?  I am.  Be on the look out for more discussion on implementing a rotating cleaning schedule in the coming month.

Quick Clean Ups Checklist – FREE Printable

Today’s post is a quick one because I’m guessing you’re as busy (or busier than I am) and have just a snippet of time to read blogs today.  Have 30 minutes before you have to run to the carpool line at school and the whole house is still a mess?  Try using this quick clean ups checklist – find your available time on the printable (15, 30, or 60 minutes), set your timer, and work your way down the list until your time is up.  You’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish!  Who knows?  You might even be able to add a few items on the blank lines to complete.  I like to go through this checklist if I have an unexpected guest dropping by or am just behind on my cleaning for the week.
