3 Ways to Freshen Up Your Bedroom

It’s that time of year – it’s gift giving time and guests are coming to stay.  Believe it or not, in just a few weeks you’ll be looking for a clean, fresh start in the new year. If you’re expecting guests or just needing a little bedroom freshening for your own room, I find that doing these three simple things make a big difference.  Not only will you sleep better, but the place you get to come to at the end of the day is calm, tidy, and easy to fall asleep in.

Start with your bed

Change your bedding  – if you can’t remember the last time you bought new bedding, now is the time!  (Keep reading for a great coupon code you can use today!)  If you don’t need new bedding, launder your bedding and make your bed.

Everyone loves crawling into a freshly made bed at the end of a long day.  That clean, crisp sheet feeling is a little luxury.  Saturday in our house (and if you follow my routine) is sheets and towels day.  That means that all the sheets and towels get washed and the beds are re-made and ready for the coming week.  When SOL Organics reached out to me to try their products, I was so excited to try out an organic linen company and let me tell you that they do not disappoint.  Sleeping on organic cotton sheets is good for you and your family (that’s my #1 reason for choosing it) and it’s also so good for the environment.

If you haven’t changed what you’re sleeping on in awhile, now is the time to give yourself the gift of a good night’s sleep.  The cotton feels different – it’s that quintessential crisp bedding feeling.  My favorite thing about the SOL Organics products?  They don’t wrinkle like regular sheets.  This is just my observation and experience, but I think that pulling the sheets out of the dryer crisp and not wrinkled is pretty great.

Declutter your nightstand and dresser

Remove everything from your nightstand, dust and clean it and put the necessities back.  Put hand lotion, lip balm, etc. in a cute container to corral these items and to keep it neat and tidy. Keep your current reads handy for your nighttime reading.  If you have extra books or magazines lying around, put them on a bookshelf or in a different location.  Keeping your nightstand cleaned off gives keeps your bedroom an uncluttered feeling and will give you a little peace of mind.  Dust and polish your cleaned off space, move onto your dresser.  Remove extra items, polish the surfaces and put back what you want to keep.

Vacuum the bedroom

Dust has a way of finding its way under the bed, baseboards, and corners in bedroom.  Move any furniture that you can and vacuum under it.  Use the crevice tool to get the corners.  Vacuum vents, blinds, and draperies to get rid of all of that residual dust.  Finish up by vacuuming the entire room vertically and then horizontally to capture every last dust particle.

I’m so excited to share the SOL Organics brand with you today – the products are amazing our family is sleeping better because of them!  SOL Organics is the most affordable and ethical organic linen company that I have found and I am excited to share them with you!

One of the things I love about Sol Organics are the bedding bundles – grab a duvet cover and sheet set for your bed and you’ll be all set!  They even have down pillows and duvets if you need an entire bedding ensemble or grab the whole Organic Cotton Bedroom Bundle with pillows, duvet, duvet cover, and sheet set.

Here’s a little bit about WHY you might want to choose SOL Organics as your new bedding company:

Conventional cotton is processed using toxic chemicals that seep onto our skin and into the air around us. Sleeping on a sheet made from conventional cotton could be a contributing factor to all types of health issues. Because organic cotton is processed naturally, it eliminates those chemical health hazards and even provides natural benefits, like being hypoallergenic, regulating body temperature and absorbing moisture.

1 organic sheet set reduces 3.5 pounds of pesticides and fertilizers.

The chemicals and pesticides farmers use on conventional crops have been proven time and time again to cause serious side effects to our health, the environment and the soil that grows our produce. While many people started eating organic years ago, we are just scratching the surface of how organic cotton fabrics affect our skin and health.

Let me know if you try SOL Organics – I am so thrilled to be able to share them with you today!

I received the SOL Organics products to review and this is a post sponsored by SOL.  I only review and share products with you that I love and have tested in my own home.  You can read my full disclosure policy here.

How to Naturally Clean an Oven

I am a compensated 3M-sponsored blogger, and as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate 3M products. Opinions are my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me.

It’s that time of the year when we welcome friends and family into our homes and entertain for the holidays.  Entertaining and holiday preparations also include lots of cooking and baking and by default messy ovens.  Spills, splatters, and stuck on messes.

If your oven has seen better days, I have a super simple and effective homemade cleaning recipe for you to use to get your oven sparkling clean.  It’s fume-free, uses ingredients you already have, and best of all, it really works.

Gather these tools and ingredients:

  • ½ cup water
  • enough baking soda to make a paste – about 1/4  to ½ cup
  • 1 tablespoon castile soap or whatever dish soap you have on hand

First things first, remove the racks from your oven.  You can use this paste to clean the oven racks but it would be better applied in a clean utility sink so you can scrub and rinse properly.

Mix up the paste oven cleaner (it will expand a bit as the baking soda combines with the soap and the water).

Using a Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots Heavy Duty scrub sponge, spread the paste oven cleaner all over your oven to coat, taking care to avoid any holes or cracks.  Let the mixture sit for 15-30 minutes.

Using a clean scrub sponge, wipe clean and rinse thoroughly with warm water.  Repeat the wiping and rinsing with the scrub sponge (barely damp) until the oven is completely clean and residue free.  I love how these scrub sponges rinse clean even when I’m cleaning the oven.

Once you have completely rinsed the oven, dry and polish with the Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots dish cloth.

If your oven is extremely dirty, you can wipe with the sponge once and reapply the paste.  Spray straight white vinegar over the solution and let it sit for 15-30 minutes and rinse and dry as described in the directions.

If you’re tired of getting a headache when you clean your oven from the fumes in your oven cleaner, you’ll love this safe solution.

3 Bathroom Cleaning Tricks You Need to Try

I am a compensated 3M-sponsored blogger, and as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate 3M products. Opinions are my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me.

A clean bathroom is a happy bathroom.  With these 3 tips you’ll be able to keep your bathroom clean a little longer and enjoy a naturally disinfected space.

Keep these supplies on hand:

First things first, you need a good disinfectant.  Here’s my favorite recipe for a safe, non-toxic disinfecting spray, perfect for bathrooms.

  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup vodka or rubbing alcohol (excellent germ-killing properties)
  • 15 drops of your favorite essential oils (lavender + lemon and peppermint + lemon are my favorite combos)
  • 1 1/4 cups water

Combine all ingredients and put in to a glass spray bottle.

Once you have mixed up your disinfecting spray, you’re ready to take on your bathroom.  Spray surfaces and let sit 10 minutes before wiping clean.  If you have any water and mineral deposits, simply sprinkle a little baking soda over the spray and wipe with a sponge to remove the spots and build-up.

Rinse the sponge and repeat until the baking soda and spray mixture is wiped clean.  The great thing about this sponge is that it rinses cleanly, so you don’t have to worry about leftover baking soda getting stuck in the sponge. Dry and polish fixtures with a clean, soft cloth.

If you’re having a hard time with water spots in your shower stall – glass or fiberglass – you’ll love this trick for keeping the walls from getting that soap scum buildup.

Simply pour white vinegar into the dispenser of a dish wand and keep it in your shower.  Keep the sponge side pointing up so the vinegar doesn’t drip.

Scrub the walls with the white vinegar and rinse thoroughly.  The vinegar cuts through any soap scum and does a little cleaning as well.  Feel free to combine with a spray of the disinfecting spray or use on its own.  Rinse thoroughly.

Try one or all of these bathroom cleaning hacks this week and you’ll find you’re able to get your bathroom a little cleaner in a little less time.  Happy Cleaning!

6 Things You Can Clean While Entertaining (and Still Enjoy the Party)

I am a compensated 3M-sponsored blogger, and as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate 3M products. Opinions are my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me.

It’s entertaining season – parties and get-togethers are such a fun way to stay in touch with friends, neighbors, and family but it’s a lot of work to put together a gathering.  Enjoy the party and keep your home clean with these simple tips for things you can clean while entertaining. The key to pulling this off is to strike a balance between enjoying the party and keeping the house tidy while entertaining. Staying up hours after the guests have left or cleaning the next day isn’t fun – here are a couple ways you can keep the party going while tidying up along the way.

Keep these tools handy:

Welcome your guests at the door with a basket of comfy socks or slippers that they can slip on and leave their shoes at the door.  Not only will your guests feel more at home, but this will also keep your floors a little cleaner at the same time.

If you have pets, make sure that you have a lint roller handy so the guests can roll away any pet hair before leaving your house. Place a Scotch-Brite®Lint Roller near the coats or where you can offer it if needed.  You can also use the lint roller to quickly clean up crumbs without hauling out the vacuum cleaner.

Broken glass?  Don’t worry, just grab that lint roller to get any microscopic shards of glass in a hurry.

Keep a Scotch-Brite®Scrub Dots Dishwand and Scrub Sponge at the sink for quick dish washing. Loaded with dish soap, the dishwand is perfect for hand washing delicate glassware and pots and pans.  Add water and dish soap to any large pots and pans and let them soak while you enjoy the party.  The Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots will power through any tough stuck-on food after the guests leave and rinses cleanly for more efficient dish washing.

Have a couple sponges and cloths ready for wiping up drips and spills as they happen.  Place one by the stove and one by the sink.

By keeping them accessible they’re ready to be used and can be used by anyone helping out in the kitchen.

Set up anything that your guests will need ahead of time.  Plates, silverware, napkins, etc.  Buffet tables or counters work great for entertaining.

I like to use glasses and mason jars for keeping silverware handy.  Stack napkins and plates near the silverware so guests can grab what they need and load up their plates in the same vicinity.

Place garbage cans where they’re accessible for guests.  This keeps the end of the party clean-up to a minimum because guests know where to dispose of their trash.  More trash in the garbage means less for you to clean up after the party.

Make it easy for your guests to enjoy the party by keeping things easy on you and making things accessible for them.  These tips will help you clean a little as you go and it will make your end of the party clean up a breeze.

10 Things People with Clean Homes Do Every Day

I am a compensated 3M-sponsored blogger, and as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate 3M products. Opinions are my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me.

You want a clean home but feel like you’re constantly running around cleaning up messes all the time?  Or maybe you have just decided that you will always be a ‘messy person’.  Take some tips from me as one of those people with a clean home – most of the time.  There is a secret to share to having a clean home – it’s daily maintenance!  Start incorporating a couple of these simple tasks daily and in no time you’ll be one of ‘those people’.

Not only is knowing what to clean and when to clean it important, but having the right tools is equally important.

Here are 10 simple things that people with clean homes do every day.

They set the tone by making the bed(s) every single day.  Making a bed is simple and it definitely sets the tone of a clean bedroom which in turn might just help you tidy up another area in your home. Let’s face it, it’s always nicer to crawl into a made bed than a messy one at the end of a long day.

They don’t let the dishes pile up. Keep the kitchen sink clean and empty – wash dishes, put dishes in the dishwasher, put away clean dishes.  At the end of the day or meal, cleaning up is the last thing that you want to do, but getting in this habit is easier because dishes are easier to clean and you’ll have less dishes to wash at once.  I love the Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots Dishwand and Scrub Sponge for washing the dishes – not only does it remove those stuck-on messes, but it also rinses clean so I don’t have to worry about cleaning my sponge too.

They wipe up little spills when they happen. Cleaning up little spills when they occur is always easier than trying to clean stuck-on drips and spills.  Keep a Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots Dish Cloth handy while you’re cooking to quickly clean up those little messes. If you encounter a stuck-on mess, the Scrub Dots side is sure to remove it in one swipe.

They pick up clutter throughout the day so it doesn’t build up.  Taking the time daily to pick up clutter is so helpful.  Start by dealing with your mail every day and once you’ve conquered that clutter issue, move on to another area and you’ll slowly be eliminating clutter in your home.

They make sure that everything has a place.  You know the phrase, ‘a place for everything, and everything in its place’?  That little concept can keep a home tidy pretty much all the time.  If you create a place for every thing in your home, you’ll always know where to return it to.

They have a system for laundry – whether it’s a load a day or laundry day, staying on top of laundry is key to keeping a clean home.  Piles of laundry that are in any state of sorting, to be washed, or to be put away can be overwhelming.  By having a system you take the guesswork out of when the laundry will be completed and you’ll not be searching for clothes or wondering if that favorite shirt is clean.

They wipe out the refrigerator weekly. Get in the habit of wiping out the refrigerator weekly.  I like to take care of this task before doing the big grocery run for the week on Fridays.  The refrigerator is mostly empty so a quick wipe is with a damp Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots Dish Cloth is all it takes to clean the surface in a hurry.

They plan ahead.  Use a calendar, planner, checklist, notebook – whatever works for you, but have a plan for what comes next so you know what’s coming and you can prepare for it.

They check the floors and sweep or vacuum up little messes daily.  Make it a habit to check under the kitchen table after meals and do a quick sweep or vacuum if necessary.  I prefer to do a whole house vacuum on Wednesdays but find that this is all it takes as long as I am tackling those daily messes (even with 3 kids and a large dog) that a once-a-week whole house vacuuming is all that is needed.

They are methodical about cleaning and organizing.  Set aside time and tackle the areas that need a little work and take care of them as needed to avoid overwhelm.  Cleaning and organizing is a part of life – it can be enjoyable or it can be a loathed chore.  Make it part of your routine and you’ll find that simple systems can make your home run more smoothly and feel clean most of the time.

How about you?  Which task can you work on or have one to add?  Tell us about it in the comments!

7 Quick Kitchen Cleaning Tips

I am a compensated 3M-sponsored blogger, and as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate 3M products. Opinions are my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me.

Quick cleaning is essential in the summer; if you’re entertaining or just trying to get out the door and to the pool, having a plan and cleaning supplies that clean more efficiently is important.

Keep supplies handy and at the ready in the kitchen – stash your favorite all-purpose cleaner, baking soda for scrubbing, dish soap, sponges, dish cloths, and dishwands in a caddy or bucket will make it even easier to keep your kitchen clean this summer.

Materials Needed:

Clean counters and a clean sink make the whole kitchen look clean and it helps to give it that just cleaned feeling.  To get this done more quickly, I’m loving the new Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots tools.  With two versions – non-scratch and heavy duty, I can use the non-scratch on counters and the heavy duty sponge on tough-to-clean dishes.  I love that the Dots rinse clean so I don’t have any food stuck in my sponge.

Wipe down counters with a sponge.  Simply make a mixture of warm soapy water (a drop or two your favorite dish soap will be great here) in a small bowl.  Dip your sponge in the solution, wring thoroughly and wipe quickly.  Follow with a Scrub Dots Dish Cloth to dry and buff to a shine.

Use a dishwand for cleaning dishes – the soap is loaded in the handle which it makes it so easy to give your pots, pans, and dishes a quick scrub. Simply scrub, rinse, and dry by hand or air dry.

I keep a dishwand under the kitchen sink just for scrubbing the sink.  Wet the sink, scrub away – you can sprinkle a little baking soda on the surface and scrub with the dishwand if needed.  The pre-loaded soap makes this little task so simple.  Rinse thoroughly and dry.

Keep your silverware in a bowl or colander to quickly load them into the dishwasher or hand wash in one quick step.  This little tip also keeps the knives out of the garbage disposal.  I use a dish if the silverware or knives need a little presoaking and if they need to be washed I use a colander.

When your refrigerator is empty or before you head to the grocery store, quickly wipe the shelves.  If you’re doing this weekly you’ll find that the refrigerator is staying clean longer and it’s nice to load those groceries on clean shelves and into clean drawers.

Be ready for messes – keep a sponge or cloth near your stovetop while you’re cooking.  While you’re waiting for water to boil or chicken to sear, wipe up little drips and spills while you’re at the stove.  Once all the cooking is done, do a quick swipe with your cloth or sponge.

Wiping up these little messes and cleaning as you go, will ultimately save you time in deep cleaning and bonus, your kitchen will be clean most of the time!

5 Tips for a Well-Stocked Pantry

A well-stocked pantry makes cooking and baking easier and it keeps the kitchen running smoothly – I love having a well-stocked pantry.  With three always hungry children, I have found that there are a couple things that really help us keep the pantry stocked, easy to access, and simple to see what we have and what we need.  (Keep reading for an amazing affiliate offer from my favorite place to stock our pantry!)

5 Tips for a Well-Stocked Pantry:

Choose containers wisely – Don’t buy that big box of containers and expect them to fit and work in your space. Measure your space, measure the containers, and double check those measurements.  I like glass containers for direct food storage (rice, pasta, dry beans, nuts, etc.) and plastic handled bins for snacks, mixes, and pre-made items.  Once you have your space set up, label, label, label.

Arrange so you can see what you have – It’s a pain to find a can of expired artichoke hearts hiding behind the pasta sauce.  Use tiered organizers and keep things arranged so you can see what’s lurking at a glance.

Group like with like – The golden rule of organizing is to group like with like.  This rule most definitely applies to the pantry.  Five cans of tomato sauce should be grouped together with other canned goods.  Not only does this make it easy to locate but it allows you to see what you have at a peek.

Separate cooking from baking – This simple organization tweak works really well for keeping those supplies close together but separate.  I keep baking supplies (sugar, baking soda, baking spray) and cooking supplies (olive oil, vinegar, sauces) on large turntables.  Not only does it keep these supplies grouped together but it takes up less space in the pantry.

Buy more than one item at a time – Anytime I have one pantry item on my list like salad dressing, kidney beans, rice, black olives, etc. I ask myself if I will use this ingredient again in the next couple months.  If the answer is yes, I always buy multiples of that item.  This saves time, helps with menu planning and keeps shopping to a minimum.

I’ve found the easiest way for me to keep the pantry stocked is to place a monthly order from Thrive Market.  I’ve mentioned it before, but my favorite online resource for natural and organic food and pantry goods at a huge discount, is Thrive Market.

See that Primal Kitchen dressing?  It’s SO good – I like to mix the ranch with the honey mustard for a fun twist on ranch dressing.

Thrive Market is an online grocer that makes it possible to buy all the healthy foods and products you want at prices everyone can afford. Thrive Market offers all the natural products and non-GMO foods you love for 25-50% less than what you’ll find in traditional retail stores—all delivered straight to your door.

Thrive Market has a great offer for Clean Mama readers! Sign up for FREE and save an extra 25% off your first order plus free shipping!

Even our dog Stella looks forward to the Thrive deliveries 😉

Want to see more pantry organization posts – head here!

I used 4 basic organizing items in the pantry – acrylic bins, glass mason jars (this post has a couple sources and details), acrylic turntables, and acrylic tiered storage.  I chose all clear storage because I like being able to see everything at a glance and I find that it’s easier for the kids to grab their own snacks and gather supplies and food for their lunches.

I labeled the glass storage jars (and I love how this functions) – check out this post for all the details and sources.how-to-label-jars

How to Use Vacuum Cleaner Attachments – to Clean Just about Everything

A vacuum cleaner that works well is one life’s luxuries.  You might not feel this way if you don’t love your vacuum cleaner, but I’m here to show you how to get the most out of your vacuum cleaner so it works for you, not against you!

Over the last couple years I’ve been doing quite a bit of market research on vacuum cleaners and air quality. Through my research I’ve found that the very best vacuum cleaner you can buy is one with a HEPA filter and a bagged system.  So when my Dyson started to go, I switched to Miele.  The difference is incredible – there are so many features that I love on the Miele, the most noticeable one is not having to empty the dust bin.  I found that there was dust everywhere in this process which pretty much defeated the purpose of vacuuming.

These vacuuming tools are the ones I use the most and the ones included with most standard vacuum cleaners. Knowing what each tool can be used for will help you use your vacuum to its full potential.  If you’re in the market for a new vacuum cleaner, make sure it has some on-board attachments so you can simply grab and use them as you’re vacuuming.

Vacuum Cleaner Attachments

Crevice Tool
Oh the crevice tool, my favorite attachment – I use the crevice tool every single time I vacuum. It features a narrow nozzle that fits in tight spots and corners. It also works well along the edge of baseboards and in hard-to-reach spots like corners and vents.

Flex Crevice Tool
This is a Miele tool that’s flexible and perfect for going under appliances and getting at those spots that most vacuum cleaners can’t get to.

Upholstery Attachment
This small tool has a felted fabric surface that makes it perfect for delicate fabric surfaces like drapes, mattresses, couches, and chairs.

Turbobrush or Small Vacuum Cleaner Head
This stool has powerful suction and looks like a mini vacuum cleaner head. This attachment works well on stairs and

Dust Brush
A dust brush attachment typically has a circular brush head and is especially effective at picking up dust and particles without scratching surfaces. It works particularly well on window blinds, shelves and wooden surfaces.

Now that you have a better idea of what those common attachments are for, let’s look at just how to use your vacuum and attachments effectively on most of your household surfaces.

How to use your vacuum more efficiently

Hard floors
I vacuum all the floors in our house at least once a week (on Wednesdays) and sweep in between. I love using my Miele Canister for hard floors – it’s amazing! This is my personal preference, but I find it easier to keep all the floors cleaner that way.

Most carpeted surfaces will do well with just the vacuum. Areas that receive a lot of traffic such as entrances and main living spaces may need a more frequent vacuuming, but most carpeted areas can be vacuumed once a week.

It can be difficult to maneuver a large vacuum along a stairway. I recommend using a canister vacuum or more portable vacuum. You can also your vacuum hose with a smaller handheld attachment. Use the crevice tool along the edges and corner and use the upholstery tool for the tread if you needed.

Walls and Ceilings
Use the circular dust brush attachment and start at the ceiling. You may need to add an extension to your attachment or use a step stool or small ladder in order to reach higher surfaces. Work your way down from ceiling to floor in a vertical motion as you vacuum.

Use the dust brush attachment – close the blind slats so they lie flat and vacuum. Reverse the blinds so that the slats are lying the other way and repeat. Repeat monthly or as needed.

Upholstered Surfaces
Use the upholstery attachment on mattresses and fabric surfaces. Work in a horizontal or vertical motion from top to bottom. Use the crevice tool in the tight corners and seams. Use the dust brush on leather furniture to reduce any risk of scratching.

The vacuum cleaner is the best way to remove dust and dust mites from the surface of the mattress when you rotate your mattress. Make sure that the nozzle of your vacuum cleaner is clean and slowly vacuum all of the crevices. Follow up with the upholstery tool to vacuum the surface of your mattress.

The dust brush tool works fabulously in those tricky vent slats for furnace and air conditioners. Dust seems to collect here especially during seasons when the furnace or air conditioner is run more frequently.

Start with the crevice tool and get in the space between the baseboard and floor or carpet. Use the dust brush attachment to run along the baseboards in a horizontal motion.  A thorough monthly vacuuming of your baseboards is ideal.

When you utilize your vacuum and its attachments as designed, you will find your cleaning tasks to be more efficient.

Both of my Miele vacuum cleaners are from Vacuum Cleaner Market.  Not every one needs 2 vacuum cleaners – but as a cleaning expert, I find it essential 😉 .  I keep the tank vacuum downstairs where we have hardwood floors and short, berber carpet and the upright lives upstairs for the plush carpet. I love that Vacuum Cleaner Market makes it so simple to see what attachments you might need and once a customer buys a Miele from VCM, they are emailed a super helpful user guide for their model.  If you’re interested in a Miele vacuum cleaner, but think it’s out of your price range, you might be surprised to learn that they have vacuums in all price ranges for any home. You can also purchase filters and bags from Vacuum Cleaner Market – they offer FREE shipping on orders over $25 and free gifts for orders over $100!
Vacuum Cleaner Market provided the Miele Cat and Dog Complete C3 Canister Vacuum   for me to test out and review – rest assured, I only review products that I love and have tested and use in my own home. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Can Vacuuming + Washing Floors Be Done in One Step?

Vacuuming and washing floors can seem never ending and in reality, they pretty much are.  Crumbs, food, sticky residue, dirt, shoe and paw prints….floors definitely take a beating.  I’m always looking for better, faster, and more efficient ways to clean, so when Bissell asked me to review their new CrossWave™ All-in-One Multi-Surface Cleaner I jumped at the opportunity to try out this new and innovative floor cleaning product.

As someone that vacuums hard surface floors on one day and washes them the next, this is a game changer.  Yes, vacuuming and washing floors can be done in one step – hooray!  Here’s the Bissell CrossWave™ All-in-One Multi-Surface Cleaner in action.

These features are what makes the Bissell CrossWave™ stand apart from other 2-in-1 and traditional products:

  • Two-Tank System – Keeps cleaning solution and dirty water separate to make sure you are always cleaning with fresh water and formula.
  • Dual Action Brush Roll – Innovative microfiber and nylon brush scrubs and picks up dry debris at the same time.
  • SmartClean Fingertip Controls – Fingertip controls allow you to easily switch between hard floor and area rug cleaning.

Simply fill the reservoir up to the lines – I just use the large area and wash all the floors at once. Bissell recommends only using their floor cleaning concentrates in this machine.  They have three to choose from: area rug, wood floor, and multi-surface.  I’ve been using the multi-surface.

I love how the cleaning brush works – it’s cleans the floor but never leaves it with residual water.

I’ve been using the CrossWave™ on our hardwood floors in our powder room, kitchen and entryway as well as on the tile in the bathrooms, mudroom, and laundry room.  It does not disappoint!

I love the way it vacuums and washes in one step – perfect for tile too!

Check this out this is after one floor cleaning session – YUCK!

Once you’re done with washing the floors you need to wash out the reservoir, filter, and brush.  This takes a couple minutes and you need to let everything dry thoroughly before returning to the machine.

This could be a drawback if you’re looking for a quick floor washing – I see the CrossWave™ more as a once a week or every other week machine with touch-ups using other floor washing methods in between.

I love how the CrossWave™ quickly vacuums and washes our floors in one step.  There’s no residue and the floors are clean in a hurry!  If you have area rugs, you’ll love this floor cleaner because not only can you wash your floors you can use this to deep clean your area rugs.  If you’re looking for a new solution for your floors, I recommend that you give this a try!

Bissell provided the Crosswave for me to test out and review – rest assured, I only review products that I love and have tested in my own home.  You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Holiday Party Quick Cleaning Checklist

I am a compensated 3M-sponsored blogger, and as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate 3M products. Opinions are my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me.

You invited people over for a little holiday party or get together and you need to get the house ready in a hurry.  Follow these quick and easy steps and you’ll be opening that door and welcoming in your guests with cheer.

  1. Set a timer.  Set a timer for 30 minutes if you need a little motivation to stay on task.
  1. Grab a laundry basket or bag to quickly stash clutter.  Move quickly to pick up any items that need to be put away.  Fill your basket with items that don’t belong out, put them away if you don’t have time and put your basket in a bedroom or closet – don’t forget to put everything away after the party.

  1. Put out fresh towels and fluff pillows.  Replace any dirty towels in bathrooms and the kitchen with clean towels.  Put out an extra hand towel or two that guests can use if needed.  Fluff throw pillows in living areas and arrange throw blankets.  This simple step gives your living areas a finished and inviting appearance and only takes a minute.

  1. Clean kitchen counters.  Wipe down kitchen counters with your favorite counter cleaner or dish soap and cleaning cloth.  The Scotch-Brite Scrubbing Dish Cloth does a great job scrubbing away any stuck on bits while wiping surfaces clean as well.

  1. Clean forgotten surfaces. Short on time? Wipe the fronts of appliances quickly with a Scotch-Brite Scrubbing Dish Cloth. Grab a Scotch-Brite Soap Scum Eraser to tackle hard water spots or soap scum on your faucet, sink or backsplash left behind from washing dishes. It gets the job done easily without any harmful chemicals!

  1. Wipe bathroom counters and clean the toilets.  Spray toilets (let the cleaner sit while you wipe counters).  Wipe toilets clean and use the Scotch-Brite Disposable Toilet Scrubber to quickly scrub toilets.  I love that it easily scrubs the bowl without having to touch anything gross – a bathroom cleaning game-changer.

  1. Have a couple extra minutes?  Grab your lint roller and roll over any extra surfaces that need a little lint removal.  Entryway rugs, table runners, and lampshades are great places to add a little cleaning energy.

  1. Finish up.  Turn down the thermostat, light a candle or two, dim the lights and get ready to welcome your guests!

Make sure you’re following Scotch-Brite on Instagram – I’m doing a takeover next week with lots of tips and tricks perfect for getting ready for the holidays.

10 Ways to Use a Lint Roller

I am a compensated 3M-sponsored blogger, and as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate 3M products. Opinions are my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me.

Lint rollers aren’t just for pet hair, here are 10 ways to use them that you might not have thought of – put a couple on your shopping list now so you have them when you need it! (My favorites are the Scotch-Brite 50% Stickier Lint Roller and the Scotch-Brite Printed Lint Rollers! I have one stashed away in almost every room of my home).   Don’t forget a lint roller for the little helpers in your house – they love to use them and the small size makes the lint roller is easy for them to use.

Some common sense before we get into the different areas you can use a lint roller.  Always use a new ‘sheet’ for each task.  Once the lint roller is dirty or no longer sticky, remove that sheet, toss it, and use a new one.

Roll the lint roller over the top and bottom of the shade and roll down the sides.  Use care to roll in one direction and remove the sheets as needed.

Sugar, sprinkles, broken glass

If you’ve ever spilled sugar or sprinkles you know that that can be a sticky mess to clean up.  You can grab a vacuum cleaner, but I don’t like to get that possibly sticky residue in my vacuum cleaner.  Grab a lint roller first and see how much you can roll up.  Once I’ve cleaned up broken glass I use a lint roller to grab anything that might be lurking behind waiting to be stepped on.

Pet Hair around the home– especially during shedding season

Our family just got a new pup, and, maybe it’s just me, but I dread shedding ‘season’. I find that there’s a lot more throughout the house.  Keep a lint roller in storage bins and containers in high-traffic rooms to snag those pesky hairs.

Floor edges

If you don’t have the time to grab the vacuum cleaner, use your lint roller to clean up those floor edges – it’s great for doing a little pre-clean before wiping down baseboards too!

Kitchen drawers (or any drawer) can be crumb and debris magnets.  Remove any liners and trays and simply roll the lint roller over the drawer and edges.  For pesky corners remove an individual sheet and slide into corners to pick up crumbs.

Car seats and floor mats

Keep a lint roller in your car to roll up any dirt, grass clippings, and crumbs.  Doing this when you see the dirt will keep your car cleaner for longer.

Dress coats and suits are lint magnets.  Keep a lint roller in your coat closet and roll away lint, dirt, pet hair, and any other specks that appear out of nowhere.

I love using a lint roller on microfiber and fabric furniture.  It gives the furniture a nice appearance and is especially good for furniture that doesn’t get daily use.

Area rugs

If you don’t have time to grab the vacuum and notice dirt or grass clippings, grab your lint roller (just keep one in your entry area or mudroom to make this super convenient), and roll the dirt up and toss the adhesive paper.

Electronics and keyboards

If you can’t get that pesky speck of who-knows-what in between your keyboard keys, use a sticky sheet from your lint roller and squish it between your keys.

Stock your cleaning caddy and closets with lint rollers so you have these handy helpers at the ready anytime.  What have you used a lint roller for?
