If you’re crazy about making DIY cleaners like I am, maybe you’d like to add a little color to your cleaner to a.) make it cute or b.) make it more identifiable. I typically just leave mine clear/natural, but was curious how to make this safely work so I figured it out in case you want to give it a whirl!
All you need is your DIY cleaner and food coloring – in my research I found that barely a drop was enough to tint the cleaner but still not spray as a color. This is important because you don’t want to clean your bathtub and tint it blue.
Here’s what you need:
- spray bottles + sprayer
- toothpicks (one for each color)
- food coloring – I found that gel food coloring works the best
- measuring container to pre-mix the water with the food coloring
This is super simple if you want to give it a try!
Just put water in a measuring cup – I use about 2 cups so I can pre-test it to make sure there isn’t any color when I spray.
Use a toothpick to ‘grab’ a little bit of the food coloring and swirl the toothpick in the water.
Test with a paper towel by just dipping it in the water to see if the water has a color or by spraying the paper towel with the water.
Pour into your spray bottle and add other ingredients.
Shake, spray, clean!
