DAY 1 – Declutter Jumpstart – Whole House Quick Declutter

Welcome to DAY 1 of the Clutter Challenge!  The Clutter Challenge is a 7 day challenge – I hope you find it doable and helpful as a springboard for getting rid of clutter! This challenge is straight from THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK – you can totally do the challenge without the handbook BUT it will definitely help you get a handle on your clutter. As a special bonus, anyone that orders and has ordered THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK will get a special discount and early notification on the Clean Mama DAILY Planner coming later this month!

This week (September 9-15) I’ll be sharing 7 tasks designed to give you a decluttering jumpstart. Start with these 7 declutter tasks – they’re designed to get you started quickly and with easily, in a realistic and doable way.

Whole House Quick Declutter:  Start by setting a timer for 10-30 minutes and see how much stuff you can find and get rid of – aim for 3 bags. Toss, donate or sell your findings – this should be stuff you can get out of the house as quickly as possible.  Think trash, things that are where they shouldn’t be and are no longer needed/used.  The more things you can get out of the house today, the better.

I used the toss, donate, sell, and relocate pages included in THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK to make this a little easier.  Each one includes a little prompt to help you decide where your items should go.

Coming in a little late?  No worries!  Start when and where you can and follow along!  Check out the links below for where you can find the daily prompts and follow what works for you:

Here’s a little more information on THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK:

Do you ever feel like you can’t relax because there’s clutter everywhere you look and you don’t know where to start or feel like it’s pointless to start?  Or that unsettled feeling of not making any progress despite your best intentions?  You clean up the clutter only to find it returned and multiplied.  There’s a pile of last week’s mail on the counter, the kids have toys, shoes, and backpacks strewn from one corner of the house to the next and people need to eat tonight.

Is it too much to ask to have a calm home to walk into to?  Is it even possible with everything else you have going on?  Maybe you’re just destined to live a life of clutter forever.

If you’ve ever felt like this, you aren’t alone.  Any time I survey readers about what they struggle with the most, it’s clutter.  Instead of moving the piles around, I want you to be able to get rid of the clutter for good, enjoy a life with less stuff, and have systems in place to help you continue to succeed.  If clutter makes you crabby but you don’t necessarily know how to get rid of it for good or everything you’ve tried before hasn’t worked, I have something to share with you.

I love living a life with less clutter. It’s easy to find just what I’m looking for, the house is always a few minutes from picked up and we just have more space and less visual noise to be in as a family.  Clutter is overwhelming, but the process to get rid of it for good doesn’t have to be. Living a life with less clutter is calming.

THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK is a 50 page pdf guide and resource webpage designed to take the guesswork out of decluttering your home.  It doesn’t matter if you’re starting from a room you can’t walk into or if you just have a couple of annoying clutter piles, this guide is designed to take you from clutter to decluttered in simple, manageable steps. Here’s how THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK is structured to help you find success in decluttering you home:

  1. Learn to declutter ruthlessly and in a way that makes sense for your schedule, home, and current clutter situation.
  2. Set up systems to effectively deal with your existing clutter.
  3. Learn how to navigate incoming clutter.
  4. Deal with clutter daily so it never piles up again.

THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK is a step-by-step manual for decluttering your home.  I’ve simplified my own personal decluttering method into an approachable system perfect for busy households and people with a time budget.  Let’s face it – if you don’t have time, that might be why your home is cluttered in the first place. You might have piles and stacks of stuff that’s been waiting for you to sort through for years or maybe it’s just piled up in the last weeks or months during a particularly busy season of life.  Whatever your current state of clutter is, you’re going to get to the bottom of it and get rid of it for good.

  1. are the diy recipes in the book ?

  2. I’m so, so glad I purchased this handbook. I have too many nice things to say that I’ll be all day. But, I had a jumpstart and finished one room just last night! I’m the type of person who can’t work with a timer, but that’s ok. If you can’t, you can’t and it’s all explained in the handbook. I live in the N.E. so I decided to go and do one room at a time as I also printed out the Fall cleaning checklist and I’m trying to combine both. But I’m getting off track, focus on DE – Cluttering ! That’s the challenge and know that the Handbook will help you emonsolly!
Enjoy and I’m back to DE – Clutter.

  3. does the Clutter Handbook, have lists to do everyday to clean and organize? I have crap everywhere and I just can’t seem to get started, need help.

  4. Those bins are so nice looking. Where did you get them?

  5. Norma Dickerson says:

I just purchased “The Clutter Handbook” and went to the Resources page (pg. 25). It says to enter “https;//”, which i did. Please let me know where the Resources lists are!

  6. Tasha Pyrrhon says:

Where did you get those tubs from. I must have!!!

  7. Lee Johnson says:

I just bought the Clutter Handbook using Pay Pal. It says that it will be delivered to my address. . . . but I print it off, correct?
