Today’s task is to dust ceiling fans. (If you don’t have any ceiling fans, you can work ahead, get caught up, or take the day ‘off’.
Using a duster, I start at the top of the ceiling fans and finish with the underside, or the part that you see.

Yesterday and today’s task is to dust/clean light fixtures. Finish what you weren’t able to complete yesterday.
The best (and most time consuming) method to clean light fixtures is to take them down and wash them in soapy water, dry and put them back up. I will be using a dusting wand to clean my light fixtures. I do take them down and wash them occasionally, but this isn’t the month for me to do that. Another method? You could use a damp microfiber cloth and wipe them down.

Today and tomorrow’s task is to dust/clean light fixtures.  How you divide this up is up to you – first floor today, second floor tomorrow or you could do the light fixtures in your bathrooms today (since it’s ‘bathrooms’ day) and everything else tomorrow.  (If you don’t have any ceiling fans, you can divide this into 3 days if you’d like.)

Yesterday and today’s task is to wash baseboards -  yesterday we started with the first half and today we’ll finish it up.
Were you happy with the method you chose for yesterday?  If not, try something different today and decide what works best for you.  Did you try a different method than one of my 3 methods?  Share it in the comments!
Here are 3 ways to clean your baseboards:
  • Magic Erasers and soapy, warm water
  • microfiber towel and soapy, warm water
  • non-toxic cleaning wipe or baby wipes (my favorite method – it’s the quickest and easiest and I can usually enlist some little helpers)
I start at the top of the baseboards and work to the bottom, scrubbing until they are clean. Another trick that I use is to put a piece of painter’s tape to mark where I need to touch up the white trim after the baseboards are clean.

Today and tomorrow’s task is to wash baseboards – I divided it up into two days because this is a time consuming job.  Yesterday we vacuumed edges, so the job will be a little easier, but it can still be divided up into two days.  Feel free to divide your house up any way you see fit – first floor today, 2nd floor tomorrow, 3 rooms today and 4 rooms tomorrow….

If you follow my cleaning routine, today is floor washing day, so baseboards are the perfect task for today.

Once you’ve decided where you’ll tackle today, you need to decide on your method of attack.
Here are 3 ways to clean your baseboards:
  • Magic Erasers and soapy, warm water
  • microfiber towel and soapy, warm water
  • non-toxic cleaning wipe or baby wipes (my favorite method – it’s the quickest and easiest and I can usually enlist some little helpers)

Day 3 – 31 Days to a Clean House

Welcome back – it’s Day 3 of 31 Days to a Clean House!

I made a printable for us to track our progress, you could just take it and run, but I think you’ll like the daily motivation and tips and tricks that this series will provide. So come back every day for the assignment and check off your progress as we go. You can go here to grab the free printable.
Today’s task is to vacuum edges.  I chose this task today because it’s already ‘vacuum’ day if you do my cleaning routine, so as long as we have the vacuums out, let’s use them for this task.

I have a nozzle attachment on my vacuum cleaner and I quickly move around the edges of all the rooms on the first floor, vacuum the floor, and then move upstairs.
This might take a little longer, but combined with the regular vacuuming it will be a productive day!

Day 2 – 31 Days to a Clean House

Welcome back – it’s Day 2 of 31 Days to a Clean House!

Today’s task is to dust/vacuum vents.  If you are looking for bonus points, you can unscrew them one by one, wash them off in a utility sink, let them dry thoroughly and then put them back up.  Because I promised you this will only take 10-15 minutes a day, I’m going to suggest using a dusting wand or your vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment - move left to right and top to bottom on each vent in your house.
That’s it!  Go grab your vacuum or duster, set your timer and get started!
See you back here tomorrow!

Day 1 – 31 Days to a Clean House + FREE Printable

It’s here -  31 Days to a Clean House!  I hope you’re excited and ready to clean your whole house this month – I’ve been working hard to find just the right mix of cleaning tasks to clean an entire house in only 10-15 minutes a day.  Of course, you can work longer or shorter than that, but with a little determination and gumption, we can totally do it.  And think about the clean start your holiday season will be off to – it’ll be great!  And please don’t fret if you miss a day or two or come to the party a little late – I have some built in make-up time.  Or you can just move to the day that we are on and catch up when you can.
Not into cleaning every day?  No worries!  I have giveaways, free printables and other fun posts planned this month too!
I made a printable for us to track our progress,  you could just take it and run, but I think you’ll like the daily motivation and tips and tricks that this series will provide.  So come back every day for the assignment and check off your progress as we go.  You can go here to grab the free printable.
So are you ready to get started?
Today’s task is to dust edges and corners.

Use a long-handled duster or this trick:

Start on your second floor (if you have one), dust all the edges and corners of your home.  Work quickly, trying to keep your time under 15 minutes – I like to set a timer to keep me from veering off into other cleaning tasks.
That’s it!  Pretty simple and if you keep moving and dusting, you should be able to make quick work of the dusting.  Make sure you are shaking your duster out periodically to eliminate dusty streaks as you work.

I have more free printables here too!  Are you excited to get your house clean this month?  I’m so happy that you are here today and ready to jump in!  Don’t forget to subscribe over to your right in the white box, follow me on Facebook for daily reminders and on Pinterest for all things clean and organized!

31 Days to a Clean House

Just popping in today to tell you about a fun little project that I’m participating in for the whole month of October.  The Nester at The Nesting Place is once again blowing up the blogosphere with her 31 Days Project.  The idea is to pick a topic and blog about it for 31 days straight.  The Nester introduces the idea here and has free buttons and more info here.  Last year I did 31 Days to a Cleaning Routine as my topic and it was a great experience of blogging and discipline.  It is difficult to write continuously on one topic, but to couple that with 31 days straight – yikes!  Regardless, I’m doing it again and would love it if you gear up to clean right along with me.
A couple promises for you – I’ll still have the Clean + Organized cleaning schedule/routine for October and if you commit to following along, your house will be sparkling clean in NO MORE than 10-15 minutes a day.  (And yes, there will be a printable or two to go along with the project to give us all that great satisfaction that a little check mark on a checklist can bring.
So…anyone doing their own 31 days project?  Or want to participate with mine?  Pin, post to Facebook, tweet…gear up for the cleanest house you’ve ever lived in!
